River Farm Godfrey Road Pinot Noir 2009
This wine comes from our Godfrey Road vineyard. The stony alluvial soils of the old riverbed at Godfrey Road are ideal for producing low-yielding, early ripening, and full-flavoured grapes This Pinot Noir comprises clones 5,115, 667 and 777. We hand manage the fruit closely in the vineyard, removing all second set and shoulders to ensure even ripening. The grapes were handpicked in early April 2009. The juice was cold soaked in small vats prior to an indigenous fermentation. Ageing too place in French barriques for 11 months before the wine was lightly fined, blended and bottled.
Garnet in colour, this Pinot Noir has lifted fruit aromas of baked cherries, candied violets, spicy potpourri and forest floor. Sweet flavours of cherries, plums, red currant, tea and mushroom are carried through to a complex and lengthy finish. Subtle tannins, soft oak and beautiful fruit have created a complex and elegant Pinot Noir which will cellar well for 6 – 8 years.
Suggested Food Matches
It has been said that Pinot Noir may be the ultimate food wine. Try it with leaner meats (veal, chicken, rabbit, beef or pork fillets), smoked or wood roasted sausage meats, earthy flavours such as mushrooms, mustard and peppercorns, sweet vegetables (tomatoes, beets, carrots, caramelised onions and capsicum), scented green herbs (rosemary, thyme, tarragon, oregano, mints and basils), red berries and pip fruit like plums, blackberry, currants and cherries, and mild or creamy cheeses (brie or camembert).
An elegant Pinot Noir with lifted fruit aromas of cherry and spicy cedar supported by flavours of ripe plum, currant and mushrooms. Subtle tannins, soft oak and beautiful fruit carry through to a complex and lengthy finish.
