River Farm Godfrey Road Gewurztraminer 2009

Dish, Yvonne Lorkin, January 2010
“Let’s tick the boxes: lychee? Yes. Ginger? Yes. Turkish delight? Yes indeed. A lovely, well-balanced Gewurztraminer that’s easy to drink, holds great length of flavour and adds a lifted aromatic element to an Asian-inspired dish.”

The grapes for this wine come from our Godfrey road vineyard. The stony, alluvial soils of the vineyard are ideal for producing low-yielding, full flavoured grapes. The grapes were handpicked and gently taken through the winemaking process which included whole bunch cluster pressing and a portion of grapes fermented in seasoned French oak barrels with wild yeasts from the vineyard and occasional lees stirring.

This is a dry fruity Gewürztraminer with richness, concentration and balance. Big yet soft mouth-feel is complemented by a clean, crisp finish. This is a luscious wine with hints of rose petal, passionfruit and lychee.

Suggested Food Match
This wine suits dishes with aromatic flavours and spices including Japanese, Chinese, Thai or Indian cuisine. It is a perfect accompaniment for platter of fresh and dried fruit and cheese.
